Likes Repel, Opposite Attracts

I Love You, but why are we so different?

After what Marlon said about our last jamming, I thought of writing this post about the four temperaments that a person has. It is better to know what type of person you are so that you would be able to determine your strengths and weaknesses and how to overcome these weaknesses you have. Also, you will know how to get along with other people that you don’t like and how to know who will be the right one for you.

Temperament consists of four different types:

  • Sanguine
  • Melancholy
  • Choleric
  • Phlegmatic

Why Opposites Attract?

  • Sanguine

A Sanguine type of person is the fun-loving, super extrovert with personality, charisma, and a charm to burn. He is the life of the party who invariably responds warmly to people. He is an enthusiastic, feeling-oriented person who can easily be moved to tears by the sad moods of his friends, or to joy and laughter by the happiness of others. He can and usually does make friends out of total strangers in a matter of seconds. He also loves to please others and never proceed through life unnoticed.
Mr. Sanguine never lack of friends and he never at a loss for words, though he often speaks without thinking. His open sincerity, however, has a disarming effect on many of his listeners, causing them to respond to his mood.  His noisy, blustering, friendly ways make him appear more confident than he really is. Like other temperaments, Sanguine have a serious weaknesses and this includes and reflected by a weak will and lack of discipline. They are highly emotional and prone to be what they called “Touchers” means usually touching people as they talked to them, they commonly have a great appeal for the opposite sex. Consequently, they usually face more sexual temptation than others. This weakness of will and lack of discipline makes it easier for them to be deceitful, dishonest, and undependable.

    Choleric

Mr. Choleric is the hot, quick active, practical, strong willed temperament type who is self-sufficient and very independent. He tends to be decisive and opinionated, finding it easy to make decisions both for himself and for others. Mr. Choleric is also an extrovert but not nearly so intense. He rarely engages in aimless activity, for he has practical, keen mind.He is determined that usually allows him to succeed. He is a born leader.
His emotional nature is least-developed of his temperament. He does not sympathize easily with others, nor does he naturally show or express compassion. He is often embarrassed or disgusted by the tears of others and usually insensitive to their needs. Cholerics are extremely hostile people. Some learns to control their anger but most remain dormant volcanoes threatening a violent eruption. With determined malice, he may willfully cause pain to others and enjoy it. Unlike the sanguine who usually vents his angers but cools down quickly, Choleric person may hold a grudge for an unbelievably long time. Other weaknesses of Choleric person are unemotional and cold, domineering, unforgiving, sarcastic and cruel, impatient, and self-sufficient.

    Melancholy

Melancholic person is an analytical, self-sacrificing, gifted, perfectionist type with a very sensitive emotional nature. He is prone to be an introvert. However, at other times, he will be gloomy and depressed, and during these periods he becomes withdrawn and antagonistic. This person is very faithful to friend but unlike Sanguine, he does not make friends easily. He seldom pushes himself forward to other people, but rather lets them come to him. He easily becomes discouraged before he starts that is why he is called to become a pessimistic person. So if someone asked a melancholic person, he will usually retort “I am not being negative, I am just being realistic.”

Melancholic person usually find their greatest meaning in life is through personal sacrifice. He seems to enjoy making himself suffer, and will often choose a difficult vocation involving sacrifice. But once it is chosen, he is prone to be exceptionally thorough and persistent in his pursuit in it. Some strengths of this type of temperament are gifted, self-disciplined, industrious,  aesthetic, creative, sensitive, loyal, and faithful.

    Phlegmatic

This person is the calm, easy-going, never-get-upset individual with such a high boiling point that he seldom gets angry. He is the easiest to get along with type of person and most likable of all the temperaments. Life for him is a mellow, pleasant experience in which he avoids as much involvements as possible. He does not lack of friends because he enjoys people and has a natural dry sense of humor. He has retentive mind and is capable of being a fine imitator. For instance, he is annoyed by the aimless, restless enthusiasm of the Sanguine and disgusted by the gloomy moods of the Melancholy. He will not volunteer for leadership on his own, but when it is forced upon him, he proves to be a very capable leader. He has a conciliating effects on others and acts as a peacemaker. Some weaknesses of Phlegmatic are his apparent lack of drive and ambition and the less obvious is his selfishness. No one can be stubborn than Phlegmatic, but he is diplomatic that he may proceed halfway through before others catch on. In family situation, they never yell or argue, they just drag their feet or refuse to budge. Another they are passive and unmotivated, fearful and filled with worry, and self-protective.
